Apple unveiled its latest flagships last month. They introduced a display feature that was so far exclusive to This year’s iPad Pro, called “True Tone” display. True Tone uses device’s front facing sensors to automatically adjust the white balance of the display to match the ambient lighting. Thus, this causes lesser eye strain and the information displayed is more legible. This feature causes the white balance to change, thus, prompting users to disable true tone. However, True Tone is different from Night Shift mode found on iOS. Night Shift mode is merely a blue-light filter when you use your phone late-night.

With the True Tone display on, your screen might look odd while running certain applications and games. Also, not everyone might adapt quickly to the dynamic change in white balance. If you think the new True Tone display isn’t for your device, let’s take a look at how to disable True Tone on iPhone 8 and iPhone X:

#1 Disable True Tone: Device Settings

  • Go to “Settings” on your iPhone
  • Tap on “Display & Brightness”
  • Then, simply toggle “True Tone” to disable True Tone.

#2 Disable True Tone: Control Center

  • On iPhone 8 or iPhone 8 Plus, simply swipe up from the bottom of the screen to access Control Center
  • On an iPhone X, you will need to swipe down from the upper-right corner of the screen, to access Control Center
  • Now, 3D Touch on the brightness slider
  • You can then see the option to enable or disable True Tone with just a tap.

Certain apps and games might not work well with the dynamic change in white balance of True Tone. As a result, user may not be fond of this feature. However, it comes down to personal preference on how you want your iPhone’s display to be.

So, are you going to disable True Tone on your new iPhone, or do you still prefer using it? Do let us know, by dropping your opinions in the comments section down below.
