There are multiple things to consider when sending a friend request on PS4. Your new friend can access your profile and other information you chose to share, like your online status and gameplay details.

If you’re ready, follow the steps below.

  • Select Friends, located along the PS4 UI bar and represented by two smiling faces.
  • In the Friends interface, select Search from the left menu pane.
  • Enter the person’s PlayStation ID or their name using the on-screen keyboard and the controller.

  • A list of players matching your search query displays. Locate the player you wish to request as a friend and select the smiley face with a plus sign icon to the right of their name.
  • The Send Friend Request form appears. Enter a message (optional) to accompany your request.
  • You can designate this as a close request, meaning you and your new friend can see each other’s full name and profile picture. To enable this, select the Send Close Friend Request check box.
  • You should only send a close friend request to players you know in real life or feel comfortable with. You can adjust these settings after you get to know someone better.
  • Select Send to complete the process. A request goes to this player, and they can either accept or deny it. If they agree, they appear on your Friends list instantly (and vice versa).
