Every other day Google surprises with new useful improvements and features. This time Google has added 12 new file types support to one of its products, that tons of people love and use everyday to rapidly view their Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and PDFs files; and yes we are talking about Google Docs Viewer.

Now when you are opening files from your Gmail account, embedded in Web pages or in Google Docs, you will be able to open far more file formats that you did before. Here is the list of the 12 new file types:

  • Microsoft Excel (.XLS and .XLSX)
  • Microsoft PowerPoint 2007 / 2010 (.PPTX)
  • Apple Pages (.PAGES)
  • Adobe Illustrator (.AI)
  • Adobe Photoshop (.PSD)
  • Autodesk AutoCad (.DXF)
  • Scalable Vector Graphics (.SVG)
  • PostScript (.EPS, .PS)
  • TrueType (.TTF)
  • XML Paper Specification (.XPS)

So the next time you receive a new email with attachment and the file type is supported, you will see a “View” link and when you click it will quickly and securely open-up in Google Docs Viewer. One thing that you should know is that you cannot create these type of files with Google Docs, you will still need the corresponding software in order to do that.

Be the first and share with us which other file types would you like to be supported by Google Docs Viewer.
